Alberta Clipper On Schedule (Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 4-5) [Updated 8 PM]

A short update as the snow continues to fall throughout Berkshire County. One factor we did not work into the equation is the wind. A Wind Advisory will go into effect tomorrow at 7 AM. Blowing and drifting snow will certainly challenge road crews in their attempts to make the streets passable. Already we're seeing gusty winds, which will only make driving conditions worse. We'll bump the Confidence Meter another 5 points in our favor due to the winds.

Below are our thoughts from earlier in the day.

Things are jumping in the GSD Office today as the information about widespread snowfall for our region continues move in a positive direction.

A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect this afternoon at 4 PM and will last through 1 PM tomorrow. NWS Albany added several hours on the front and back of this Advisory, which is good news for us and should mean will see more snow.

NWS Albany

The snow should start around 6 PM today and carry through the morning hours. It will be light and moderate mostly with a slight chance for heavy snow bands at times.

Forecasters and models are showing 2-4 inches south of Pittsfield and 4-7 inches in northern Berkshire County.

Given the timing and relatively high snowfall for an Alberta Clipper, we expect many delays tomorrow and a smattering of full closures. The question will be if road crews can keep up with the snow and if it is still snowing smartly in the key 5-6 AM window. It is highly unlikely that any district will call in a delay or snow day this evening.

Do your favorite snow dance to ensure that tomorrow's school day is shortened or cancelled!
